Main Task

Film Ideas
We started brain storming and had the idea of using a mother and daughter, we had inspiration from Hide and Seek, a film me and Abbie had analysed previously. Where a childhood memory is turned sinister, in the film it is the game hide and seek turned into horror but we decided to turn a nursery rhyme sinister.

We thought of colours that could be used to link the little girl to horror, we decided to use a red jacket because it could still make the young girl look innocent but also symbolise hell and death. We also decided to dress the mother in blue to symbolise innocence and purity. We had the idea of using a red balloon that as something bad happened it could be released in the air but we decided this would be to hard to link to the story.

The main story line was a young girl left by herself , she hears sounds around her, and feels like someone is watching her, she is taken and becomes possessed by the 'thing' that takes her. Her mother realises she is missing and goes looking for her and sees first hand the change in her daughter.
  •       I would play the mother
  •       Abbie would play the daughter
  •      We would all help direct, film the piece and edit.

Costume
We also thought about costume in our piece :

We decided to dress the mum (who I played) in blue as it is a colour that symbolises innocence and purity, the audience know she is the good character. The coat also makes her look older then Lucy, even though we are both the same age.

We dressed Lucy in all red, but the jacket has dots of white on it to show that she is not all evil, she does still have some innocence and goodness. We put her hair up in pony tales to make her look as young as possible so that the horror came from making such an innocent looking girl evil.

Setting
We thought about where we could film, and tried to do it as locally as possible so that we could visit the places as frequently as we needed.

We decided on using one of the local parks, we picked this one specifically as it had lots of field to make it look even more deserted, most of the colours were very dull as well so that Lucy's red jacket would stand out.

It also had woodland by the swings we were going to use, so someone could look like they were hiding behind them to scare the audience.

We also picked the cemetery which is a common convention of the horror genre, again it had very dull colours except for one red tree in the centre by a bench which we thought we could use as red symbolises danger.
There was woodland around the cemetery which is another common convention of horror and they also created a barrier.

Production logo ideas
We decided to make a production logo to be played at the beginning of our film. We looked at some examples to inspire us:

Warner brothers used orchestral music and the iconic shield then appeared with bugs bunny, a famous cartoon character behind this image was the sky to symbolise fantasy. This logo if very family orientated, so i don't think our horror film will be as affective with a production logo like this one.

Their logo has had many remakes including the one that was used at the beginning of The Shining. The famous shield appeared again with the grand orchestral music so the audience can recognise which production company it is. The distinctive blue and gold are also related to Warner Bros.

The Walt Disney logo is also fantasy orientated, with the famous music and the Disney castle in the frame, it creates a very safe atmosphere another technique which would make the atmosphere of our horror less chilling. The colour blue has been used again as it is a very safe colour.

Universal used lighting very effectively, the shot starts in complete darkness to contrast with the world that is about to light up and make it the focus point. The bright lights catch the audience eyes and i think it would be a good way, to start the film. They have produced the horror films Dracula and Frankenstein.

Dimensions film production, who has famously produced the Scream films and Halloween also used a dark background  and the word 'Dimension' moves in from the left in bright blue to contrast with the dark background. I think our logo needs to use darker colours because it is a code and convention of the horror genre and the way this logo moves across the page maybe be possible for our group to produce.

Paramount pictures produced Psycho, it uses the famous mountain top and the circle of stars in their logo. The happy opening tricks the audience in to feeling comfortable, like the beginning of Psycho, to make the impact greater when the film turns sinister. The camera slowly zooms in to the mountain top and it is the followed by a circles of stars, I like the idea of the stars because our film is linked to the nursery rhymes twinkle twinkle little star and it could link the production logo and the film together.

Our Production Logo

We decided to centre our production logo in the middle of the frame, like many of the famous logos have. We decided to call it 'Timor' as this means fear in latin and links with the genre of the film, giving the audience a hint as to what sort of film they are going to see.
We went with a red colour scheme as red has the connotations of hell, death and evil all linking with the horror genre, the use of the starts adds a childlike presence in the image, again telling the audience the film involves children with a sinister twist.
